We launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign yesterday to financially support the release of Rescuing Hidden Hearts on February 17.
A Kickstarter launch is not that big a deal anymore. The company has raised nearly $8.5 billion over the past 15 years, benefiting over 250,000 creative projects. Nearly 100 million contributions have passed through since Kickstarter was launched. Those are astounding numbers. One hundred million contributions!
Well, we don’t need anything in that range.
Our goal for Rescuing Hidden Hearts is $2,000. Yes, the book is written, edited and the cover designed. But there is still far to go for this self-published project. We need your financial support to finish the job, to take us the final, most difficult mile:
to create the visual designs for the interior of the book's pages;
to cover the cost for marketing;
to cover the cost for purchasing ads (Amazon; Google, etc.);
to cover the cost of book mailing and distribution;
and, critically, to restore us financially for all the costs we have incurred thus far (training, editing, cover design, etc.) in bringing the book to conclusion.
Those are all the concrete facts about Kickstarter and our campaign to support Rescuing Hidden Hearts. But there’s a lot more in the mix than fundraising.
If you look closely, God’s fingerprints are all over Rescuing Hidden Hearts.
The book took eight years to complete.
In one of the many journals I used to write down my prayers, and God’s answers to those prayers during our early morning conversations, God spoke to the deep disappointment I was feeling. “Why is it taking me so long to complete this book?”
“I knew how long it was going to take you to complete this book before you ever began.”
Throughout most of those eight years, those words from God gave me hope.
This is God’s book. Most of the words the book is built upon are His.
There are many stories in Rescuing Hidden Hearts. My story of a wounded and damaged childhood. The story of Andrea and I and our marriage—and how it was almost destroyed after twenty years. And then was resurrected by God’s grace and our obedience. And the stories of eighteen other Christian men and women who struggled to obey God.
And how God’s grace and mercy, and His powerful key of obedience, rescued all of us. How courage released obedience into our lives, released all our hidden hearts from the fears that held us in bondage, and gave us the abundant life we had all been seeking for so long.
The primary reason Andrea and I remained faithful to finishing Rescuing Hidden Hearts is to share God’s redemptive truth with all those others who are desperate for rescue. All the other marriages on the brink of destruction. All the other lives held in bondage by lies from their past that threaten their future.
Our desire is to share the hope that sustained us, that rescued us into freedom, and blessed us with a new life. A hope that is available to anyone.
Which brings us back to Kickstarter.
Kickstarter is the first step that will take us to February 17, Rescuing Hidden Hearts' launch day. Will you help us? Will you join with all the others who helped us along the way to bring this message of hope to all those who need it? Please click on this link that will take you to our campaign on Kickstarter and submit a pledge. There are some great rewards there for each level of pledges.
It was God’s instructions that taught me the powerful importance of obedience. And His patience and faithfulness that didn’t forsake me when it took so many years to obey. And now it is to God’s glory that His work is finished.
And His work is only just beginning.
